Study: Eating Lunch at Work Makes Employees Unhappy

London — April 12

Research in partnership with scientists from the University of Sussex found that people feel happiest about work after a lunch at the beach or in a park. Eating at their desk or at a work cafeteria, the research says, can actually decrease happiness at work, leading to reduced productivity and a generally unhappier workforce.

The scientists looked at the environments in which people eat their lunch in a bid to discover where people would be happiest. The results revealed that even eating on public transport is more satisfying than eating at a desk.

The Kingsmill Lunch Spots campaign, in partnership with national U.K. tourist boards such as VisitEngland and Visit Wales, calls on people across the U.K. to nominate their favorite outdoor lunch spot.
