Boulder, Colo. — Nov. 2

A recent survey by FlexJobs, a website for finding telecommuting and other flexible work options, found that 83 percent of employees said that they would be more loyal to their employer if they had flexible work options. What’s more, 46 percent said they have given up or quit a job due to a lack of work-life balance.

For example, to achieve the option to telecommute, 1 in 5 respondents would take a 10 percent cut in pay, with another 7 percent being willing to take a 20 percent cut in pay, according to the survey. Another 1 in 5 would give up some vacation time. Sixteen percent would give up employer-matching retirement contributions.

Reasons for wanting more flexible work options included work-life balance (75 percent), time savings (45 percent), commute stress (43 percent) and cost savings (40 percent), the survey said. One in 3 people said health is a consideration, with 1 in 5 specifying exercise.

In terms of productivity, when asked where they go if they really need to get something done, only 19 percent said they go to the office, according to the survey, while 53 percent said they finish it from their home office. An additional 18 percent of people said that they go to the office before or after regular work hours.
